Description
Donate your urine to turn it into agricultural fertiliser: that's the innovative pilot project of around twenty members of a Community-supported agriculture (CSA model) in Chatillon, near Paris, which has been running a urine collection centre since January. Urine is rich in nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, which are essential for plant growth. "It is not some gadget for the 'ecolobobos' because urine is an agricultural fertiliser," explains Elodie Dorfiac, first deputy mayor of Chatillon. The project is supported by the Ponts et Chaussees engineering school and financed by The French Environment and Energy Management Agency (Agence de l'environnement et de la maîtrise de l'énergie).
