"Everything's gone...everything's been burnt," says Joaquim Maia, who, like many other residents of Pessegueiro de Vouga in central Portugal, is taking stock of the devastation caused by intense wildfires. On Thursday, official data showed that firefighters were tackling the last of several fires that have been raging across the country's northern and central regions for days.
