Britain's finance minister Rachel Reeves defends her decision to cut winter fuel benefits for pensioners as "the right decision in the circumstances that we inherited" as she addresses the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool. The decision to axe the £300 payment that goes to 10 million pensioners to help them heat their homes in the colder months has triggered fierce backlash from trade unions and some fellow Labour MPs.
