On the ground next to a flimsy tent in the Panamanian jungle, migrant Oswards Ruiz says he had no choice but to flee Venezuela after the widely questioned July reelection of President Nicolas Maduro. "I didn't want to leave Venezuela, but I had to flee because they were going to kill me," he says. So Ruiz traded one dangerous situation for another one: opting for the dangerous trek through the Darien jungle between Colombia and Panama, then Central America and Mexico with the hopes of being allowed into the United States.
