Description
As Hezbollah confirms its leader Hassan Nasrallah was killed by an Israeli air strike on Beirut's southern suburb, Chatham House Director Bronwen Maddox says “his removal from the scene will be a huge shock to those who followed him”. The head of the leading global London-based think-tank questions whether Iran, to which Hezbollah is a proxy, will retaliate directly, saying “Iran does not want a hot war it can’t control”. Diplomatically, Maddox says “one of the interesting things that I think has come out in the past week is how little influence the US appears to have”. Despite saying that there is “no question” how Western disapproval of Israeli force being exerted in the region is “stinging in Israel” Maddox says Israel will continue to “hunt down, kill and subdue its enemies”.
