Description
Once a playground for the rich and famous, Acapulco has lost its appeal over the past decade as foreign tourists have been deterred by the violence that has made it one of the world's most dangerous cities. Daily violence in the state of Guerrero, affecting both urban and rural areas, is driven by the connections between criminals and local authorities, posing a significant challenge for Claudia Sheinbaum, who will assume the presidency of Mexico on October 1.
The insecurity is by no means unique to the city in the southern state of Guerrero. Gunfire, murders and threats - insecurity is a fact of life in much of Mexico and one of the main challenges facing Claudia Sheinbaum when she becomes president on October 1. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
