Oyster openers worldwide flock to Galway, Ireland, to compete in the 2024 World Oyster Opening Championship. An annual test of the skill - also known as 'shucking' - the contest is the climax of the world's longest-running oyster festival, held in the Irish city since 1954. 33-year-old Renars Purmalis, a chef from Latvia, is crowned this year's champion.
