New NATO chief Mark Rutte vows support for Ukraine, saying the country "has the right to defend itself", including striking "legitimate targets on the aggressor's territory". Speaking in a press conference on the day he assumed leadership of the alliance, Rutte credits former US President Donald Trump with an increase in defence spending in Europe, doubling down on earlier comments that he was "not worried" by the outcome of the upcoming US presidential election, in which Trump could return to the White House.
