Description
"Migrants have a higher prevalence of HIV than the general population," says Luisa Cabal, UNAIDS regional director for Latin America and the Caribbean, in an interview with AFP in Argentina. Latin America recorded 120,000 new infections in 2023, an increase from 110,000 in 2022, according to data from UNAIDS.
Cabal adds that the majority of new infections in Latin America are among "the most vulnerable or marginalized populations." Infections in the region increased by 9% since 2010 compared to an overall reduction of 36% in the same period, according to UNAIDS. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
