US scientists Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun won the Nobel Prize in Medicine on Monday for their discovery of microRNA and its role in how genes are regulated. When Secretary General of the Nobel Assembly Thomas Perlmann rang the pair about the award, he says Ruvkun "was so overwhelmed" with the news 'he had to give the phone back to his wife.'
