Description
Lowering themselves into a hole in the pavement, workers in Paris are replacing old electricity cables to ensure that the French capital remains 'The City of Light' even as it contends with climate change. "Heatwaves are becoming stronger and more frequent," says Olivier Lagnel, Paris deputy regional director for Enedis, which oversees the network, who explains how the old cables expand and contract under drastic changes in temperature, creating gaps and taking in moisture, ultimately leading to power cuts.
