Description
According to a World Wildlife Fund (WWF) study, 95% of biodiversity has been lost in Latin America and the Caribbean over the past 50 years. "We are very close to the tipping point for the Amazon," says Carlos Herrera, Director of Conservation and Governance at WWF Colombia. "We expect countries to adopt a set of commitments that are not only ambitious but also implemented as quickly as possible." Representatives from around 200 countries are expected to attend the COP16 biodiversity conference in Cali, Colombia, from October 21 to November 1. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
