"They should receive these awards while they are still alive", says Abeer Abdallah, the sister of the Reuters journalist killed in an Israeli strike in Lebanon on 13 October 2023. Her brother is one of the many journalists who lost their lives this year and to whom RSF and the Bayeux Prize are paying tribute. 2024 was particularly deadly with scores of Palestinian journalists killed in Gaza by the Israeli army.
