Lawyers representing Kenya's Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua say they walked out of his Senate impeachment trial after a decision to continue with the trial despite Gachagua not being present. One of Gachagua's lawyers told the Senate the deputy president was ill and in hospital, but a bid to adjourn to trial for several days was rejected. "When the senate decided to take that approach, we decided to take leave because we’ll be sitting in an act, or rather we shall be perpetuating an illegality if we were to sit in parliament without adequate instructions from our client," says Ndegwa Njiru, one of Gachagua's lawyers, in the capital Nairobi.
