Description
New Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and main opposition leader Yoshihiko Noda campaign ahead of a snap election that will take place on Sunday.
Polls suggest the ruling LDP could fall short of the 233 lower house seats needed for a majority for the first time since 2009, with voters potentially swayed by Yoshihiko Noda, the new head of the opposition Constitutional Democratic Party and a former prime minister.
"I think a new situation will emerge in Japanese politics after the election," Masato Kamikubo, politics professor at Ritsumeikan University says, adding that he predicts the number of seats between the opposition party and the ruling party will be "closer". IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
