Description
Nino Tsereteli fears for the sexual health charity she has built up if the ruling Georgian Dream party wins the October 26 elections. Earlier this year the populist party approved a law on "foreign influence" forcing NGOs receiving more than 20 percent of their funding from outside Georgia to register as entities "which pursue the interests of a foreign power".
The registration process requires disclosing a large amount of information to authorities, including confidential information about the people receiving help. Nino is one of many activists who fear this could make their clients turn away from the provided services. "If the worst case scenario is developing, then we will have to decide whether we continue existing or not," Tsereteli says. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
