Description
Afghan pomegranate farmers in Kandahar say they are struggling due to neighbouring Pakistan increasing tariffs on fresh fruit from the country. The tax on one ton of pomegranates has risen from 19,000 Pakistani rupees (68.44 USD) in 2023 to 100,000 Pakistani rupees (360.23 USD) in 2024.
"We have to sell them locally, but they don't bring in much money," says pomegranate orchard owner Agha Wali. Others have been looking for alternative markets abroad. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
