Description
Brenda Diaz Valencia's life was upended nearly two years ago when her father, Mexican environmental defender Antonio Diaz Valencia, and lawyer Ricardo Lagunes were forcibly disappeared. Both men had spent years denouncing the catastrophic environmental impacts and paltry benefits of an open-pit iron mine in San Miguel de Aquila, central Michoacan, operated by Luxembourg-based steel giant, Ternium. "For as long as I can remember, he has always been a social fighter for the defense of the territory and the environment," the 39-year-old tells AFP about her father. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
