Description
Sri Lankans share their views on the upcoming parliamentary elections, with the country's new leftist president hoping to expand his three parliamentary seats to a house majority. Anura Kumara Dissanayake took power in September on the back of public anger over the island's 2022 economic meltdown.
"I think the president's party, the NPP [National People's Power], will emerge victorious," said Imran Furkan, from the Australia-based geopolitical risk analysis firm Tresync, adding that he would then pursue reforms, including unpopular austerity measures begun by his right-wing predecessor.
