Description
Activists from the ruling Pastef party gather in Dakar to campaign for the legislative elections, while Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko has called for calm. He had earlier called for vengeance after supporters of his party were attacked by opponents. ‘It was the human being speaking. It wasn't the Prime Minister speaking,’ says Pastef activist Philippe Mario Manda, who attended the rally. Other supporters, like Mohamed Diom, demand accountability. Senegal is due to elect a new parliament on Sunday after President Bassirou Diomaye Faye dissolved the opposition-dominated chamber in September. The ruling Pastef party aims to secure a legislative majority to implement its promises of social justice, economic transformation and efforts to fight against corruption. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
