A hyper-realistic replica of a beached sperm whale lies on the embankment in Baku, Azerbaijan, as the city hosts the annual UN COP climate conference. As residents look on, members of the Belgian art collective Captain Boomer perform tests on the carcass, fully in character as marine investigators. “One of the questions we’ve heard time and time again, is this real,” says Ben Kenis, ‘marine biologist’ and collective member. “When it comes to climate change, it definitely is real.
