Description
The Vatican installs a 29-meter-tall red fir from the Val di Ledro in Trentino, northern Italy. The tree, which weighs 5 tonnes, has sparked controversy with some environmental groups opposing its cutting and even writing a letter to Pope Francis. Local officials justify its removal as part of sustainable forest management, explaining that the tree was already scheduled for removal. The lighting ceremony will take place on December 7. IMAGES
