Description
A rarely seen painting by Italian master Caravaggio, part of a private collection, is going on display to the public for the first time in an exhibition in Rome. "The Portrait of Maffeo Barberini" features the future Pope Urban VIII, was a friend of the painter's patron. "It is one of the rarest paintings by Caravaggio," explains gallery director Thomas Clement Salomon. "They are very few, so being able to show one to the public and scholars is an exceptional event."
