Soaring prices have left a bitter taste in shoppers' mouths in Bangui, as a strike by Cameroonian truckers accusing Russia's Wagner mercenaries of a recent murder of a driver cuts off the Central African Republic (CAR). "I was in the market to buy some provisions for the house, within 24-hours some commodities like sugar and oil that we often buy for breakfast have risen much too fast," says Grace-a-Dieu Ndomandayo. The landlocked country in the heart of Central Africa, is one of the poorest in the world and largely dependent on imports, more than 40-percent of which came from neighbouring Cameroon in 2022.
