As Bitcoin surges past $100,000 for the first time, El Salvador business owner Jorge Solis explains how adopting the cryptocurrency as a payment method helped him increase sales, as well as save and invest his earnings. "In such a short time — what, 4 or 5 years? — how the value of Bitcoin has changed, how it has changed so quickly... It’s going to be incredible," says Solis from inside his restaurant in the capital, where Bitcoin payments are accepted.
In September 2021, the currency was adopted by El Salvador as legal tender, though according to a study by Central America University, in 2023, 88 percent of Salvadorans never used it. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
