The Mayor of Oslo joins the Lord Mayor of Westminster to switch on the lights of the Trafalgar Square Christmas tree, marking the 77th year of this traditional symbol of friendship between London and the Norwegian capital. Hundreds of spectators braved torrential rain to witness the event, enjoying carols from the St Martin-in-the-Fields choir and the Salvation Army band; however, it wouldn't be a tradition without the annual mocking of the tree, with some suggesting it is the worst yet from Norway.
