Description
In the Canary Islands, where almost 80 percent of water consumption comes from seawater desalination, innovative projects to produce water using less energy are proliferating. On the island of Gran Canaria, seven new facilities have been set up to recover water from fog on a military base, from which more than 400m3 per year is expected. This helps to guarantee "the supply and distribution of water" whenever there is a water emergency, says Mercedes Fernandez-Couto, managing director of Emalsa, a water utility company.
