Description
As Europe's climate monitor releases its 2024 warming assessment, Saudi Arabia's deputy environment minister Osama Faqeeha told AFP that his country has "a strong and ambitious programme to reduce all emissions". As for the financial pledges that could be announced at the end of COP16 in Riyadh on Wednesday, Faqeeha said that "the financial pledges already made during this COP far exceed any financial pledges made at previous COPs". The Copernicus Climate Change Service's report says this year is "effectively certain" to be the hottest on record and the first above a critical threshold to protect the planet from dangerously overheating. The new benchmark caps a year in which countries rich and poor have been hit by disasters that scientists have linked to humanity's role in Earth's rapid warming. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
