Description
Papua New Guinea's prime minister has promised to return to UN climate summits after boycotting this year's talks, but called for safeguarding forests to be a bigger priority.
"Next year we will be in Brazil," Prime Minister James Marape said in reference to the next event, adding that he would support an Australian bid to co-host COP31 in 2026 along with Pacific nations.
Marape also commented on Bougainville’s independence and the proposed Australian rugby team in PNG during the wide-ranging interview with AFP in Sydney. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
