Thousands of people gather to mark the Nguon festival in Foumban, the historic capital of the Bamoun kingdom in Cameroon’s western highlands. Nguon, a tradition of rituals founded in 1384 which seek to promote dialogue, harmony and peace, is taking place for the 548th time, but the first since it was added to UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage list in December 2023.
