Description
In the picturesque town of Sighnaghi, the ruling Georgian Dream party won 62 percent of the vote in a disputed October general election. Yet, even for residents of a region seen as a party stronghold, the government pulling Georgia towards Russia and its decision to shelve a push to join the European Union have caused worry and consternation. "Everyone wants Europe ... I don't know anyone who wants Russia," says Giorgi Demurishvili, a local tour operator, whose business has seen a decline in tourist numbers since protests began against the October vote.
