Description
A Kenyan court sentences a freelance photographer, Jacktone Odhiambo, to 50 years in prison after finding him guilty of killing his lover, a prominent LGBTQ campaigner. The murder of Edwin Kiprotich Kipruto, popularly known as Edwin Chiloba, in January 2023, sent shock waves through the gay community in Kenya and drew condemnation from rights campaigners at home and abroad. "Fifty years, although it will not bring back our brother from the grave, he is gone, but it is not that bad. It's fair," says Gaudencia Tanui, Chiloba's cousin and spokesperson for the family, outside the court in the city of Eldoret. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
