Description
The giant waves that engulfed Indonesia's Aceh province on December 26, 2004, killing tens of thousands of people, paved the way for an end to three decades of conflict.
For years, separatist rebels in Aceh had waged battles against Jakarta's army for their own state - until the disaster wiped out entire communities, triggering a huge global relief and reconstruction effort.
