Description
Volunteers hang festive lights along the UK's National Covid Memorial Wall "to reflect and remember those people who are not with us over the Christmas period." The wall, nestled on the banks of the Thames opposite the British parliament, hosts a memorial established without permission in March 2021 and consisting of some 240,000 painted hearts, each one representing a person who has died from Covid-19 in the country. "Christmas is a really hard time of year for a lot of people and especially we think of the Covid bereaved and how hard it is for them", says Lorelei King, one of the volunteers, whose husband died of Covid-19 in March 2020.
