Description
This month sees the release of the second season of "Squid Game", an ultra-violent tale exploring themes of division and inequality. While the show itself is a work of fiction, Hwang Dong-hyuk, its director and writer, has said the experiences of main character Gi-hun, a laid-off worker, were inspired by the Ssangyong strikes in 2009.
Lee Chang-kun was a union leader at the time of the industrial action and still works for the company now called KG mobility. He says he struggled to discuss "Squid Game" because of the trauma he endured during the strike and its repercussions. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
