With burnt, bullet-riddled houses, damaged streets filled with rubbish and a lack of electricity and basic necessities, residents say the situation in Jenin Camp is "disastrous", lamenting a "collective punishment" amid fighting between the security forces of the Palestinian Authority (PA) and local armed militants that has been ongoing for over three weeks, triggered by arrests earlier this month. Jenin, in the northern West Bank, is a stronghold of armed Palestinian factions who view themselves as a more effective resistance to the Israeli occupation, in contrast to the PA which coordinates security matters with Israel.
