US tourists in Panama share their views on Trump's recent claims to retake control over the canal. "The Americans came down and helped build it, not by being asked, but invited themselves, and then I think it is 100 percent Panama," says US tourist Natalia Glusack at the Agua Clara Locks.
The canal, inaugurated in 1914, was built by the United States but handed to Panama on December 31, 1999, under treaties signed some two decades earlier by then-US president Jimmy Carter and Panamanian nationalist leader Omar Torrijos. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
