The British flag above 10 Downing Street is flown at half-mast in honour of former US president Jimmy Carter, who died on Sunday December 29 at the age of 100. The Democrat served as president from 1977 to 1981 where he dealt domestically with a struggling US economy and internationally brokered a landmark peace accord between Egypt and Israel.
