Description
At the Manguier school in Mamoudzou, the mood is dampened by a feeling of sadness. Two and a half weeks after the devastating cyclone hit Mayotte, preparations for the start of the new school year are a priority. The families living in the shelters have been asked to move out and to find somewhere else to live. 'We're not leaving here with dirty clothes,' sighs Roukia Abdillah as she washes her clothes in a large metal basin. 'It will dry in the afternoon. Then we'll leave tomorrow'. At Le Manguier, 21 infants, 118 children and 63 adults are affected. For Ambdilwahedou Soumaila, Mayor of Maoudzou, 'there was never any question of setting up permanent centres in schools... The State decided (...) to create the conditions to be able to accommodate them', added the elected official. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
