Description
In Mayotte, two weeks after cyclone Chido devastated the island, the shanty towns are getting back on their feet, despite Prime Minister François Bayrou's promise to 'prevent the reconstruction' of these precarious settlements, where a third of the population lives. For several days now, the dull sound of tools working on sheet metal has echoed through the Cavani Sud neighbourhood of huts, stretching for miles along the hillside. 'Most of the houses we're building today are still in a poor state of repair, or they'll be even worse than before', explains Soubira Attoumani, a resident of this shanty town. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
