Description
Police officers, military tanks, and an air of unease fill the streets of Caracas as uncertainty mounts over the possibility of a social uprising ahead of President Nicolas Maduro's investiture. This coincides with opposition leader Maria Corina Machado's call for protests, as she continues to assert the victory of her proxy candidate, Edmundo Gonzalez, in the July 2024 presidential elections.
"We want everyone to be united... with no bloodshed, no war," says a 65-year-old Venezuelan in the capital. Another resident shares their concern: "I won't leave my house because you never know what might happen on the streets." IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
