Description
A new museum opens in Kosovar capital Pristina, full of belongings and mementos from childhoods spent grappling with the 1998 - 1999 war. Director of the "Children of War Museum" Bjeshke Guri says part of its purpose is "to educate the audience" by filling in gaps in education surrounding the conflict. Kosovar artist Petrit Halilaj, whose childhood drawings of the violence that surrounded him form part of the exhibit, recounts his "very strong emotion" at coming face to face with his 25-year-old artwork in its new setting. "Basically what you see here was the biggest nightmare as a kid that I had basically during the whole time of the war", he says. The musem also features toys, letters and photos, among other items.
