Planes land at London's Heathrow Airport, Europe's biggest hub in terms of passengers, after the British government announces it backs controversial plans to build a third runway. Following years of legal wrangling, the backing comes after Britain's Supreme Court ruled at the end of 2020 that Heathrow could build a third runway, overturning a legal decision to block construction on environmental grounds. The airport welcomed a record number of travellers last year, with almost 84 million passengers passing through the airport in 2024. IMAGES
