Description
Some shops are reopening in the conflict-hit Eastern DR Congo city of Goma, as Rwandan-backed armed group M23 announced a humanitarian "ceasefire" in DR Congo's perennially explosive east, days before a planned crisis meeting between the Congolese and Rwandan leaders. M23 and Rwandan troops last week seized Goma -- the provincial capital of DR Congo's mineral-rich North Kivu region that has been blighted by conflict from multiple armed groups for over three decades. The fighting has left more than 900 people dead in and around Goma, according to the UN Office for Humanitarian Affairs. IMAGES
