Description
Two years after the deadly earthquake that claimed more than 53,000 lives in Turkey's Southeast, local artists in Antakya use art to cope with the events. No place was worse hit than Antakya, the site of the ancient city of Antioch, where 90 percent of the buildings were lost, and more than 20,000 people died in the town and the surrounding Hatay province. "Art motivated me, and I got better. I healed with mosaic. I dedicated myself to art to heal," says artist Eser Mansuroglu. Local artists are now reunited by Antakya's Art and Culture Market, which opened on January 1 and showcases the work of more than 70 local artists. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
