Description
Mexicans living on the US border in Tijuana share their views on an increased military presence in the city, part of a 10,000-member deployment that President Claudia Sheinbaum promised US counterpart Donald Trump in exchange for a one-month delay of his tariffs. "It's just a way of trying to look good so they don't raise tariffs," says Armando Jauregui, an employee at a duty free store on on the border.
On the other side of the wall, US soldiers reinforce barbed wire fencing as part of a sweeping immigration clampdown implemented by Trump since taking office. "I don't agree with it (...) we go there in search of a better life, but they don't see it that way," says Araceli Lopez, as she watches the American troops work just a stone's throw from her front door.
