Description
Residents and health workers in the conflict-hit eastern DR Congo city of Goma express concern about the shortage of drinking water and the cholera risk for those opting to get their water supplies from the nearby Lake Kivu. “The population is no longer sleeping due to the lack of water. Some families go to the lake, but children drown and others risk getting cholera because the water is not drinkable,” says Goma resident Bahati Mugisha. Goma was captured last month by the Rwanda-backed armed group M23 which has since pushed southwards nearing the city of Bukavu. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
