On Kyiv's central square, hundreds of names and photographs with Ukrainian flags on them fill a memorial honouring troops killed in combat during three years of war with Russia. But as US President Donald Trump steps up efforts to secure a ceasefire, the true death toll of the three-year conflict remains unknown. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) says it is working on some 50,000 cases of missing persons, both civilians and combatants on both sides of the conflict, but this is probably the "tip of the iceberg" according to ICRC spokesman Patrick Griffiths.
