Description
Researchers in Belgium study the impact of erosion on France's iconic Fort Boyard, using a replica in a wave pool with the original building in a poor condition and closed for renovation until 2028. "We generate real waves, and we see what is happening in real conditions in order to validate that conceptual design," says coastal engineer and research project manager Peter Troch, adding, "we can quantify the related forces on the walls. And that makes the design very robust and future-proof." IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
