While the German election campaign is dominated by a heated debate on limiting immigration, the ageing country is also searching the world over for qualified recruits to fill a growing labour shortage. In 2023, a Berlin clinic launched a programme to recruit qualified medical staff from Mexico. The costs of the trip to Germany, language courses and assistance in finding accommodation are covered.
